Dear Hearts, return to the Home Page!
I think we’re onto something.

Dear Hearts,

Worried about destruction of the rain forest? Me too. But you can strike a blow for biological diversity and do something about climate change right here at home on your own land. I want you to meet people who are doing just that.

They’re turning marginal farmland back into prairie. They’re reconstructing wetlands instead of draining them. They’re clearing the underbrush from overgrown savannas and watching the wildflowers and red-headed woodpeckers return. Instead of mowing, fertilizing and watering large lawns, they’re replacing some or all of them with wildlife friendly deep-rooted native perennials.

In short, they’re leading a quiet revolution in land management. This magazine is about that revolution, and I hope you will join us. Whether you have a city lot or a place in the country, we invite you to take part.

Nature wrote the rules for this revolution in the wonderfully diverse native plant communities that evolved over thousands of years---the prairies, savannas, wetland, forests and other native ecosystems.

Following these models brings huge environmental benefits. Whether it’s your back yard or the back 40, your land will store more carbon; soak up and purify runoff; enrich the soil; provide a better home for wildlife, and it will delight you with its beauty.

Joins us, won’t you. I think we’re onto something.
